Eight killed in road accident near Ragh village

CHITRAL: Eight people, including a man from Yarkhun and his only son, lost their lives when a passenger coach met with an accident at Ragh Lasht on Wednesday morning.

The coach was going to Booni from Chitral when it collided with a Ghogai car coming from the opposite direction. Six people died on the spot and two succumbed to their injuries at the DHQ hospital Chitral.

The eight deceased were: Sarfaraz Lal of Dewangol, Mastuj; Rehmat Hussain and his son Umar Hussain, 9, of Phashk Yarkhun; Suhali Mirza, Charun; Ali Muhammad, Zizdi; Muhammad Younus, Seenlasht; Fazal Ali, Tekholasht Booni, and Farman Ali Khan, Sonoghur.

Besides, 10 injured, including retired principal Mir Hakim of Ziwaht Shoghore, Sajjad, driver of the coach, and Junaid, driver of the car, were admitted to the DHQ hospital.

One of the injured told ChitralToday from his hospital bed that the accident occurred when drivers of the coach and the incoming vehicle remained on the narrow patch of the metalled road.

Some people here said where ever roads in Chitral have been metalled, they are not more than six feet and being used by two-way traffic. No vehicle wants to give way to the incoming vehicles on the metalled road and hence the accidents.–Sher Jahan Sahil
